We're both in the classroom but can't see each other

You and the other person have both joined, but each of you sees an empty room.

This normally means one of you dropped out of the room without noticing. The page can keep showing the classroom even after the connection has died, so it looks like you’re still in class when the system has already lost you.

Fix it in 10 seconds

Reload the page. That is it. Reloading rejoins you as a fresh connection and the other person appears.

If the page shows a yellow You are disconnected message, press Rejoin instead — same thing, one click.

You do not need to log out and back in, and you do not need a new class link.

Why it happens

If your internet drops for even a few seconds, our video provider removes you from the room. Your screen carries on showing your own video, which is why nothing looks wrong from your side. Meanwhile the other person is sitting in an empty room.

Joining very early makes it more likely. If you join 10 minutes before class and then leave the laptop alone, the connection often dies before the class starts.

To avoid it

  • Join around 2 to 3 minutes before the class, not 10 or 15.
  • Don’t let the computer sleep while you wait.
  • On weak wifi, sit closer to the router, or use a cable.

If reloading doesn’t help

  • Both of you reload, not just one.
  • Check you’re both in the same class. Open it from your Sessions list rather than an old link someone pasted.
  • Message the other person in the class chat to confirm what they can see.
  • If it still fails, contact an admin with the class code (it looks like C-XXXX) so we can check the logs.
